Marco Bona is an internationally renowned jurist for his research activity, including comparative research, and his scientific contributions in the field of civil liability, compensation for damages, European Union law and ECHR law.

Formerly a contract university lecturer at prestigious Italian universities (Turin, Milan-Bocconi, Castellanza, University of Eastern Piedmont), he has published over 150 papers, books and sentence notes, directs research groups at European level, is a speaker at conferences and courses in Italy and abroad.

As an expert he was consulted by the Justice Commission of the European Parliament.

Research activity

Since 2001 he is General Editor and Director of the European Research Group of PEOPIL (Pan-European Organization of Personal Injury Lawyers) on compensation for personal injury («PEOPIL RESEARCH GROUP»), included in the Grotius Program (European Commission). The group has published two texts of primary importance for European operators in the sector: M. BONA & P. ​​MEAD (EDS), Personal Injury Compensation in Europe, Deventer, Kluwer, 2003; M. BONA, S. LINDERBERGH & P. ​​MEAD (EDS.), Fatal Accidents and Compensation of Second Victims in Europe, XPL, London, 2005.

Since 2000 he has been Chairman of the Academic Committee and of the Tort Reform Group (since June 2010 the Research and Tort Reform Group) of PEOPIL (Pan-European Organization of Personal Injury Lawyers), an association based in the United Kingdom that brings together lawyers, academics and experts to the detriment of the person operating in the Member States of the European Union and in States which are members of the Council of Europe (www.peopil.com).

As coordinator of the Academic Committee of PEOPIL:

on March 21, 2002 participation on invitation to the European Commission “Follow-up to the Green Paper”

participation in activities and consultation meetings on the subject of civil liability, social security systems and insurance with the European Commission, the European Parliament and the English Law Commission

drafting of position papers and proposals for regulations / directives

Consultative activity at the Legal Commission of the European Parliament

On May 30, 2006, Marco Bona intervened in Brussels as an “expert” at the session of the Committee on Legal Affairs of the European Parliament for the presentation and discussion of the legislative initiative “Limitation periods in cross-border disputes involving injuries and fatal accidents “(2006/2014 (INI)) (Rapporteur: Diana Wallis MEP), an initiative that has its origins in a regulation proposal drafted by the same Marco Bona and other members of the PEOPIL Research Group.

On March 19, 2007 he intervened, again as an “expert”, at the public hearing on road accidents held by the Committee on Legal Affairs of the European Parliament, held in Brussels.
